Resources: Committees

Members of the Smoky Mountain Paralegal Association are encouraged to actively participate in the association. Volunteering to be on a committee can be a great way to get and stay involved with SMPA.


Association History Committee
Gathers and documents information on the history of the Association.

Audit Committee
Assists in the audit of the Treasurer’s records annually.

Educational Institution Committee
Promotes SMPA, assists in the needs of the educational institutions, and maintains the Mentor Program.

Educational Program Committee
Coordinates educational opportunities for the membership.

Ethics Committee
Receives reports of an ethical violation of a member, and determines whether or not a violation has occurred.

Executive Committee
Acts as a governing board and planning committee bringing recommendations for SMPA to the membership for a vote.

Finance Committee
Provides a proposed budget for the ensuing fiscal year to be approved by the Executive Committee, and adopted by the membership at the annual meeting of SMPA.

Membership Committee
Develops programs to promote membership in SMPA.

Nominations/Elections/Credentials Committee
Provides the slate of officers to the membership for election.

Publication Committee
Provides a monthly e-newsletter and quarterly publication for the membership.

Resolution Committee
Considers changes to the Bylaws of the Association presented to the Executive Committee by members of the Association.

Scholarship Committee
Promotes the scholarship, and prepares documents for the ultimate choice of a student to receive the scholarship.
